Genetic Engineering
Week 2 – Discussion 2
Genetic Engineering
Genetic engineering methods such as gene knockout (developing organisms that lack a particular gene) and gene replacement (developing organisms in which a particular gene has been replaced with another) are used widely in biopsychology research. Discuss how these methods affect brain structure and functioning. What are the ethical concerns of this type of research? Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts no later than Monday, Day 7.
Week 2 – Discussion 1
Invasive Methods
Invasive methods such as lesioning and stimulation are used within biopsychology to answer certain questions about function within the brain. After reading about these methods in your text and conducting additional research on the effectiveness of the methods, discuss the pros and cons of these methods in terms of their effectiveness and potential side effects. What are some of the disadvantages to using these invasive methods? Include citations to support your claims. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts no later than Monday, Day 7.
